BIO:
Born in California, Kevin grew up in San Rafael. He produced and shot his first film in high school at age 16. In 1980, he graduated from Cal State University at Chico with a degree in Journalism - Broadcast Radio/TV with a Music minor. While in Chico, Kevin worked in Radio for 3 years as an On-Air DJ, Commercial Producer, and Program Director. Kevin started his TV career in 1980 at the San Francisco PBS affiliate KQED - building sets, stage managing, and working as an Audio Engineer and Camera Operator. At the time, the show "Over Easy' was being produced and Kevin had the pleasure to work with some wonderful actors such as Bob Hope and Jimmy Stewart.
In 1983 Kevin started a Video Production Company partnership: In Focus Video Productions. Based in San Francisco, he served the Bay Area focusing on Corporate Communications and Commercials.
In 1989 he started Kevin Cates Productions, offering freelance services as Director of Photography and Audio Engineer.
Over the past 30 years Kevin has worked on hundreds of Broadcast Television shows and Major Cable Network Programs, as well as Network Sports, National and International News, Corporate Communications, Industrial Training, Video Podcasts, and Documentary Films.

For the past 10 years, Kevin has focused his skills as Director of Photography, Editor in Final Cut Pro, and Producer of Motion Graphics, Internet Video and DVD production.
Kevin has worked on shows that have won Peabody awards at KQED, a Cindy award for best Original Soundtrack with the US Forrest Service, and most recently, a Documentary Film with the Dalai Lama has won several festival awards.
